| Opened in 1972, it was known as the Johor Golf Club and is the first golf club in the State of Johor. In 1983 the Royal status was bestowed on the club by HRH, the Sultan of Johor, and the Club's name was changed to "Royal Johor Country Club". In 1991 / 92 the course was upgraded. The greens and the tees were rebuilt using Bermuda grass. More ponds and bunkers were incorporated to make the course more challenging This is a walking course and no buggies are available. Night golfing facilities are also not available. An excellent layout with good segregation between adjacent fairways provided by matured trees and open spaces. Much of the original jungle has been retained, creating a naturally scenic course. Spread over undulating terrain, the course provides a mental as well as a golfing challenge. Royal Johor is one of Malaysia's big courses and favours long hitters. It features generous fairways on most holes. The second nine is longer and possibly more difficult. Among the many interesting holes on this course are the fifth, eighth, twelfth, sixteenth and eighteenth. The round ends with a 413 metres uphill par 4, which is hard to reach in regulation. The course is normally in excellent. It is a private members club and membership is non transferable. Current entrance fees is RM30,000 and the monthly subscription is RM50. Total membership is 2700, out of which 1400 are golfing members and the rest are social members. Amenities included are: driving range, practice green, swimming pool, gymnasium, billiards and racquet sports. There are restaurants, a bar and lounge and a banquet hall. Visitors Visitors are welcome but on weekends and on public holidays there is a time sheet in operations and as such advance booking is necessary. Being a private members Club, the Royal Johor Country Club has a very tight schedule of tournaments, especially during weekends. It is best to check with the club before you plan a visit. Weekdays morning are usually free. |
