Hints on using a monocart without hassle - By Daniel Ng (August 1999)

Made use of this before? It's called a monocart. If you have golfed at Keppel Club, you would have used it. It runs on a monorail along the boundaries of the fairways and control is by means of a remote control which is carried by a member of the flight. It's efficiency is comparable to that of using a buggy that is restricted to the buggy tracks. Golfers using this monocart for the first time finds it fustrating and cumbersome. However there is an efficient way to use it.
Lets start at the tee box. After everyone has teed off, do not return your clubs to the cart. Instead, the controller (person holding the remote control) will activate the monocart to move. The controller will then stop the cart when the cart is abreast of the first ball that is furthest from the green or let the cart stop at designated auto stops at various points along the monorail. At the stops all the golfers will then return their previous clubs. Quite accurate club selection for the next shot can be made (if 3 clubs are selected) by judging the ball position relative to the additional yellow or red ball distance markers that are placed in the middle of the fairway.(A yellow ball indicates 150 metres to the centre of the green and a red ball, 100 metres) The last golfer to return/select the clubs from the monocart will have to activate the cart to move by pressing the green button that is on the cart. This procedure is repeated until all the golfers are at the green. Remember, 1. take about 3 clubs with you and a putter if you are going for the green. 2. last person to return/select clubs from the monocart to activate the cart for it to move to the next stop. 3. the controller will activate the cart to move from the tee boxes and stop the cart as and when required by the flight mates. By following these simple procedures, golfing at Keppel Club would be a breeze.
